(small wa)

Hiragana — ゎ

Extended W-row 2 strokes
Character

Usage Note

A shrunken version of わ, ゎ almost never stands alone in modern Japanese — historically it appeared after く/ぐ (くゎ/ぐゎ) to preserve an older "kwa/gwa" pronunciation, now essentially obsolete outside old texts, some regional dialects, and a handful of proper names. It is not used in ordinary modern writing.
